Frequently asked questions: Kiln-dried firewood
What is the moisture content of your dry firewood, and why does it matter?
Tammaru Farm firewood is kiln-dried to 10–15% moisture and ready to burn. Wet firewood with more than 20% moisture uses much of its energy to evaporate water — the fire is weak, the smoke is thick and the chimney gets sooty faster. Dry firewood lights faster, burns cleaner and gives more heat.
Which wood should I choose — birch, alder or black alder?
Alder lights quickly and is good for starting a fire. Birch gives a strong flame and even heat and is suitable as the main fuel for stoves and fireplaces. Black alder (Alnus glutinosa) is slightly denser than ordinary alder. All three are suitable for stoves, cookers, fireplaces and sauna stoves, and all are kiln-dried to 10–15% moisture.
What are your firewood prices?
Warehouse prices start at €3.15 (25 cm alder, 20 L mesh bag) and go up to €9.70 (40 cm birch, 60 L mesh bag). All prices include VAT. For delivery, transport is added; its cost depends on the quantity and delivery address.
What is the minimum order quantity?
The minimum purchase from the warehouse is 12 mesh bags. You can combine different log lengths and bag sizes in one order.
How much does a bag of firewood weigh?
20 L bag (25 cm logs): alder about 6 kg, birch about 7 kg. 40 L bag (30 cm logs): alder and black alder about 12 kg, birch about 14 kg. 60 L bag (40 cm logs): alder and black alder about 18 kg, birch about 21 kg.
How much firewood do I need for the winter, and how much should I order?
It depends on the size and insulation of your house, your stove or fireplace, and whether firewood is your main or additional heating. To estimate the quantity: 1 m³ of stacked firewood is about 50 bags of 20 L, 25 bags of 40 L or 17 bags of 60 L.
Do you deliver firewood to my home, and how quickly?
